MUSCAT: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has received approval to operate four weekly flights between Salalah and Karachi as against one weekly flight at present.

The Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) granted the approval on Wednesday. PIA began its weekly Salalah-Karachi flight in March this year, followed by a weekly flight to Islamabad.

The flight will leave Salalah Airport at 00:05 every week on Thursday and take two hours and 30 minutes to reach Karachi. It will arrive at 03:35 hours on Thursday morning.

In December 2016, Salalah Airport received the first direct PIA flight from Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore. The twice-weekly service is operated by Airbus A320, which accommodates 150 passengers in economy class and eight passengers in first class. The number of international flights through Salalah Airport stood at 2,791 as against 1,960, a 42.4 per cent increase over the same period last year.
