MUSCAT: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry pointed out that the number of release certificates for the key mechanical, metal, electrical and chemical products, as well as building materials, foodstuff and agricultural products during the first quarter of 2017 stood at 9,258; constituting a growth by 8.5 per cent compared to 8,324 release certificates in the same period in 2016.
The Statistics Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that the growth in the number of release certificates issued for the passenger vehicles/ vehicle tires increased to 1,315 during the first quarter 2017 compared to 88 vehicles/ tires in the first quarter in 2016. This is due to the new passenger cars at the beginning of the year. The number of release certificates for the chemical pharmaceutical products grew by 20.4 per cent compared to the first quarter last year due to increased demand and growth in the number of imported consignments to meet the market needs.
