Rome: New car sales in the European Union rose by 9.6 per cent in April compared to the previous year, recovering from a drop the previous month, industry figures showed on Thursday. About 1.3 million vehicles were sold, and market trends were positive in all five major EU markets, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association said in its monthly bulletin.
Year-on-year, sales rose by 12.3 per cent in Spain, by 10.4 per cent in Britain, by 9 per cent in France, by 8 per cent in Germany and by 6.5 per cent in Italy.
Market leader Volkswagen had a 25.7 per cent share of EU April sales,followed by PSA at 16.3 per cent, and Renault at 10.8 per cent. — dpa
