NIZWA, NOV 3

The Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences witnessed the opening ceremony for the third International Scientific Conference, which comes this year under the theme “Transactional Crimes: Challenges, Strategies, and Countermeasures.” The ceremony was presided over by Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan al Busaidi, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, and in the presence of Lt Gen Hasan bin Mohsin al Shraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs, a number of university and college presidents, and senior officers from military and security services.

The International Scientific Conference aims to benefit from scientific research to develop security policies and cope with the rapid technological advancement. In addition, it intends to promote regional and international cooperation to combat transnational crimes.

Brigadier General Dr Khalifa bin Hamed al Fari, Commander of the Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences, said, “The selection of the conference theme stems from the need to understand the evolving nature of transnational crime and to address the legal, security, technological, and institutional requirements it entails.”

On this, Dr Al Fari pointed out, “The Academy is keen to benefit from the scientific output focused on transnational crimes through five interconnected themes, Law and Legislation, Security and Foresight, Technology and Innovation, Governance and Management, and Society and Media.”

Prof Dr Jassim bin Mohammed al Maljawi, the acting Dean of the College of Police, said, “The Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences continues to consolidate its position as a scientific forum for the exchange of knowledge and expertise on policing and security issues.”

The 3rd edition witnessed wider participation from different countries, which included Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, and Vietnam. It demonstrates the commitment of the Royal Oman Police to exchange expertise and knowledge to advance policing work and overcome contemporary challenges.

Lieutenant Colonel Khalifa bin Said al Omairi, Director of the Research and Studies Centre, Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences, emphasised, “The transformation in security operations, supported by strategic and foresight research findings, has helped redefine the role of security and police institutions in line with modern approaches that assess situations more precisely and measure their implications.”
