MUSCAT: The Media Excellence Competition represents a national platform for entrenching a culture of excellence and innovation in media work, and for motivating talent to deliver quality works that contribute in raising the quality of Omani media content and in enhancing its capacity to keep pace with the rapid transformations in the media industry.

This was stated by Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi, Minister of Information, in a press statement on the occasion of the award ceremony for the 2026 Media Excellence Competition, to be held at the Theatre of the Ministry of Information on Monday.

The minister said that the competition, whose first edition was launched in 2004, has consolidated its standing among national initiatives supporting positive competition in the media sector and has contributed to showcasing national talent and recognising its achievements in journalism, radio, television and electronic media.

He added that digital transformation and the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence applications necessitate continued modernisation of work tools and production methods and the enhancement of media practitioners' capabilities to employ new technologies in producing innovative, value-driven content, while adhering to accuracy, credibility and professional responsibility.

The minister noted that the significance of the competition extends beyond honouring the winning works to encouraging creative experiences and highlighting outstanding professional practices, thereby enabling lessons to be drawn from successful models and stimulating continuous development.

He emphasised that advancing media requires combining innovation, quality of performance and commitment to professional standards.

Dr Al Harrasi said that the Ministry of Information looks forward to the competition in contributing to enhancing the competitiveness of Omani media, expanding the horizons of creativity in local content and consolidating practices that respond to the requirements of the current stage and the aspirations of society, thereby strengthening the presence and influence of Omani media and supporting its development process. — ONA
