MUSCAT, OCT 20

Oman A and Oman B secured places in the men’s quarterfinals of the World Military Beach Volleyball Championship ‘Muscat 2026’ as the group stage concluded at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher.

Both Omani teams strengthened their qualification bids with important victories during the third day, which featured eight matches across the men’s and women’s competitions.

Oman A recorded their first win of the tournament with a straight-set victory over Sri Lanka. The result provided a timely lift after two narrow 2-1 defeats against Brazil and Algeria and secured the team third place in their group.

Oman B also advanced after adding a second victory to their campaign. They defeated the Netherlands 2-0, building on their comeback win against France a day earlier. The Omani side later lost 2-0 to Qatar in their second match of the day but still finished third in Group A.

Qatar topped Group A after completing an impressive unbeaten campaign, while Germany finished second following straight-set victories over France and the Netherlands. Oman B took third place, with France claiming the fourth and final qualifying position as the Netherlands exited the tournament.

BRAZIL LEAD GROUP B

Brazil led Group B after maintaining their strong form with a 2-0 win over Algeria. Algeria finished second, followed by Oman A in third and Sri Lanka in fourth.

The quarterfinal line-up therefore includes Qatar, Germany, Oman B, France, Brazil, Algeria, Oman A and Sri Lanka.

The third day also decided the four semifinalists in the women’s competition. Germany defeated Algeria 2-0, while Sri Lanka secured a straight-set victory over the Netherlands.

Germany, Algeria, France and Sri Lanka progressed to the last four, while Oman and the Netherlands were eliminated following the opening stage.

The championship, which began on October 15, continues until October 22, with both Omani men’s teams now aiming to extend their campaigns and challenge for places in the medal rounds.
