Fawzi al Hubaishi gave Oman an encouraging start to the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games on Monday by qualifying for the men’s F54/55 shot put final, scheduled for October 22.
The F54 athlete secured his place in Thursday’s medal contest as Oman’s delegation prepared for a busy programme involving seven athletes across track and field events on Tuesday.
Al Hubaishi’s qualification provides an early boost for the national squad, whose athletes are seeking to turn their preparations into strong performances against leading competitors from across Asia.
Tuesday’s programme begins with Muhanna Awlad Thani in the F33 shot put at 9.05 am, followed by Mutasim al Saadi in the F53 javelin at 9.10 am. Qusay al Rawahi contests the T13 100 metres at 9.25 am, while Othman al Habsi takes part in the T12 100 metres at 11.14 am.
The evening programme features Taha al Harrasi in the T36 100 metres at 5.40 pm, Saif al Muqbali in the T46 100 metres at 6.08 pm and Talib al Balushi in the F56 shot put at 7.05 pm. All times are local to Japan.
Oman’s participation continues on Wednesday, October 21, with Al Rawahi competing in the T13 long jump final and Rawan al Hasani contesting the wheelchair 100 metres.
Iman al Shamsi will compete in the F34 shot put, Al Saadi in the F53 shot put, and Mohammed al Qasmi and Mohammed al Mashaykhi in the F32 shot put.
Handcyclist Sami al Sulaimi will also begin his campaign on Wednesday in the individual time trial, before returning for the men’s H4-5 road race on Thursday.
Al Sulaimi’s preparations included specialist work on climbing, descending, endurance and physical conditioning, aimed at meeting the demands of international road competition.
Thursday’s athletics programme will be led by Al Hubaishi’s appearance in the shot put final. Iman Al Shamsi will contest the F34 javelin, while Al Balushi competes in the discus and javelin.
Al Harrasi will take part in the T36 long jump, Awlad Thani in the F33 javelin, and Al Habsi in the T12 long jump and 400 metres. Al Muqbali will also contest the T46 400 metres.
Al Qasmi and Al Mashaykhi return on Friday, October 23, for the F32 club throw, completing Oman’s scheduled athletics appearances.
The squad’s participation follows a preparation programme organised by the Oman Paralympic Committee in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth through its promising athletes programme.
Training camps in Poland and Thailand, alongside sessions at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher, helped the athletics squad develop its physical and technical readiness. Al Sulaimi completed a separate camp at Jabal Haat in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.
With an opening finalist already secured, Oman’s athletes will now look to build on that start and earn further opportunities to compete for medals before the Games conclude on October 24.
