MUSCAT, OCT 11

The Oman Handball Super Cup will provide an early test of the four participating clubs as they compete for the first title of the 2026/2027 season. Holders Oman Club will face Seeb, while Al Amerat take on Nizwa in the semifinals following Sunday’s draw at the Oman Handball Federation headquarters.

The draw was attended by Nasr bin Hamad al Hassani, chairman of the federation’s Athletes Committee and guest of honour, members of the Competitions Committee and representatives of the participating clubs. Zuhair Khalid Samha, refereeing expert and acting technical expert at the federation, explained the draw procedure before the match-ups were confirmed.

The semifinal matches will be played on November 8 at the indoor hall of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. Oman Club will meet Seeb in the opening match, followed by Al Amerat against Nizwa. The winners will advance to the final on November 11.

Oman Club will be aiming to defend their title and extend their record as the competition’s most successful team, having won the Super Cup three times, in the 2017/2018, 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 seasons.

Seeb will seek to upset the holders and make a strong start to the new campaign, while Al Amerat will look to build on their previous success in winning the Second Division League and the Ministry Shield. Nizwa, meanwhile, will be determined to secure a place in the final.

Al Hassani described the draw as producing promising encounters and praised the transparent process conducted in the presence of club representatives. He also stressed that the teams’ technical and physical preparations would be crucial to delivering competitive performances and reflecting the continued development of Omani handball.

Following the draw, the Competitions Committee met club representatives to discuss organisational arrangements, including team kits and player registration. The first registration window closes on November 5, with each club permitted to sign two foreign players.

The First and Second Division leagues are scheduled to begin on November 20, with eight clubs competing in the First Division. Meanwhile, the preliminary rounds of the Oman Handball Federation Cup, formerly known as the Ministry Shield, will start on January 15, 2027.

The Super Cup will therefore offer the four clubs an important opportunity to assess their readiness and build momentum ahead of a busy domestic season.
