MUSCAT, OCT 8

The Credit Oman Basketball Cup will launch the 2026–27 season on October 25 and 26, with Salalah facing Masirah in the women’s competition and Al Bashayer taking on Seeb in the men’s encounter.

The Oman Basketball Association (OBA) has scheduled the women’s match for Sunday, October 25, at 6 pm, followed by the men’s clash at the same time on Monday, October 26. The two fixtures will offer the participating clubs an early opportunity to secure silverware and establish momentum for the season ahead.

The men’s match will renew the rivalry between Al Bashayer and Seeb, who shared the major domestic honours last season. Al Bashayer claimed their fifth Oman Basketball League title after finishing top of the standings with 19 points, narrowly ahead of Seeb on 18.

Seeb subsequently secured the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth Basketball Shield, defeating Al Bashayer 75–66 in the final. Those results underline the close competition between the two clubs and add further interest to their forthcoming meeting.

Al Bashayer will seek to build on their league success by adding the Credit Oman Cup to their honours, while Seeb will aim to carry their winning form from the Shield into the new campaign. With both sides bringing considerable experience of domestic competition, the encounter promises an early test of their ambitions and readiness.

WOMEN'S FIXTURE

The women’s fixture between Salalah and Masirah will open the programme, with both teams targeting a winning start and the first trophy of their season.

Beyond the title itself, the match will provide valuable competitive experience as the players work to improve their fitness, sharpen their skills and develop their understanding on court. It also forms part of the OBA’s efforts to strengthen women’s competitions and broaden participation among clubs, providing players with more opportunities to prepare for upcoming events.

The tournament returns for its fifth edition following the renewal of the partnership between the OBA and Credit Oman for a fifth consecutive year. The agreement supports both the men’s and women’s competitions and reflects the continuing contribution of the private sector to basketball in Oman.

Through the partnership, the association aims to sustain the competition and provide additional opportunities for clubs to develop their players, while strengthening the domestic calendar for men and women.
