

Muscat: The Advanced Air Mobility Sandbox planned by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) will be a major initiative not just in the Sultanate of Oman but also in the wider region.
International and local operators, manufacturers, technology providers, research institutions, and industry partners will get the opportunity for live field performances and trials in the regulatory-friendly environment between December 6 and 10.
According to an official connected consortium mandated by the National Advanced Air Mobility Strategy, "This is the first international sandbox, which covers sectors - healthcare, security, agriculture, and air taxis and we invite all operators and service providers to participate in these trials and help us take some reference when we succeed in this mission."
The GUAMobility Consortium has been conducting strategic workshops, focused on Investment, Financing & Public-Private Partnerships to support the development of a strong and sustainable AAM ecosystem in Oman.
This workshop marks an important step towards transforming Oman’s AAM vision into concrete opportunities for investment, innovation and long-term grow, according to an executive of the consortium.
"The idea behind sandbox is to make sure, the idea is to get inputs to enhance regulations and how to create a certification process. Following the conclusion of the Sandbox there will be workshops with about consisting of different operators and authorities. The AAM ports will be developed in all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, including Muscat, Suhar and Salalah among others."
Muscat Airport will be identified mainly for operating taxi services, linking the Sultan Haitham City and other paces. Regarding the actual implementation of the AAM project, the start of the drone-deliveries will be the first implemented, because taxi services will also depend on the corridor to be marked for the service and development of the vertical ports
Muscat Airport has been identified for the existing facilities such road and parking infrastructure, security, safety facilities (including fire and rescue), power charging facilities, a gateway linking traditional, advanced air mobility and ground transportation.
