MUSCAT: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has formed a committee to review heavy vehicle safety requirements and the conditions and procedures for issuing driving licences, including heavy vehicle licences.

Lt Gen Hassan bin Mohsin Al Shraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs, issued Decision No 137/2026 establishing the committee, chaired by the Director General of Traffic, with specialist ROP personnel as members.

The committee will review licensing provisions under the Traffic Law and its executive regulations, alongside safety and security requirements for heavy vehicles. The review will consider practical needs and relevant international practices.

ROP said the decision reflects its commitment to improving the traffic system and ensuring the safety of road users.

Separately, ROP reported that a tractor-trailer had broken down on the Muscat Expressway after the Al Ilam bridge, in the direction of Seeb. Traffic was diverted from the Qurum bridge to Sultan Qaboos Street.

Police urged motorists to use alternative routes and cooperate with officers.
