Mirbat hosts Dhofar International Arabian Horse Championship

MIRBAT: The Wilayat of Mirbat hosted the third edition of the Dhofar International Arabian Horse Championship on October 3 and 4 at Midan Al Najaeb, with the event holding a B International classification under the standards of the European Conference of Arab Horse Organizations (ECAHO).


The championship is being organised through a strategic partnership between the Office of the Governor of Dhofar, Dhofar Tourism Company and the Oman Equestrian & Racing Federation.


The event brings together Oman’s equestrian heritage and the international Arabian horse show circuit, while highlighting the historical, cultural and tourism assets of Dhofar Governorate and the Wilayat of Mirbat.


HH Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, said hosting the championship reflects the continued attention given to equestrian sports and Arabian horses as an integral part of Oman’s cultural and historical heritage.


He noted that the event’s progression to international classification demonstrates the governorate’s growing capabilities in hosting specialised sporting events.


 

 

The Governor said the championship extends beyond its sporting dimension to encompass cultural, tourism and economic aspects by promoting the heritage associated with Arabian horses and attracting participants, enthusiasts and visitors.


He added that the event contributes to tourism and economic activity while strengthening Dhofar’s position as a destination for international events.


HH Sayyid Marwan also stressed the importance of continuing to develop the championship and building on the achievements of previous editions to enhance its sustainability and standing among international Arabian horse shows.


He highlighted the importance of coordination among the organising entities and partners to ensure the success and continued development of such events.


The first day of the championship features 10 qualifying classes for fillies, mares, colts and stallions across the approved age categories. The second day will feature six championship finals, with total prize money exceeding $200,000.
