The Sultanate of Oman is seen through the eyes of residents and visitors as an exceptionally placid country which has a distant identity at all times from tensions and acts of hostility. Oman has never been alone in either the regional or international arena for one simple reason: Oman is honest with itself and with others, with an attitude that is both forthright and sincere.
Oman sets an example of being a country that conforms to a high standard of morality and virtue and follows its own set of accepted rules of moral conduct, especially at a time when others have become known for villainous and mean behaviour that causes harm and pain for their own satisfaction and brings great suffering and unhappiness to other countries and people.
Look at Omanis, and you would tell from the first glance that the well-born Omani personality is marked by dignity and decency and portrays both a superiority of mind and character. Omanis do not need someone to tell them how to manage their actions, nor do they need to be told how to conduct themselves properly.
This is reflected in Oman's distinguished foreign policy, befitting the eminent Omani personality and dignified manners. The non-interference in the affairs of other countries, while striving to intervene between countries to promote reconciliation, settlement and compromise, has become a distinguishing trait and quality of Oman’s efforts in recent history.
The Omani hands have never been stained or suffused with the shedding of blood.
Any attempt to spoil this glamorous and conspicuous image of Oman and Omanis is akin to one’s own attempt to tarnish and bring disgrace to their own character and confine themselves in a condition of losing honour and in a state of guilt, shortcoming, and impropriety.
Oman has never been known for harbouring terrorism nor has it been recognised for breeding or hatching terrorists. While terrorism has hit many parts around the world over the last few decades, Oman has always been and will continue to be a safe heaven for utmost happiness; a country without any feeling of dislike or hatred, or prejudiced hostility or animosity.
What is more important is that Oman is blessed with wise leadership. His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik is well-known for his deep understanding, keen and careful discernment, and capacity for sound judgment. The Omani leadership always strikes a balance between its moral and ethical obligations to others and its own internal interests. In recent history, Oman has never meanly or unfairly made use of others' woes to acquire cheap political or economic gains, in a world that has unfortunately become devoid of compassionate, sympathetic, and generous disposition.
Oman strictly follows the teachings of the Holy Quran, which says: “Repel evil with what is best, and then the one between whom and you there was enmity will become as though he were a devoted friend.”
Omanis have learnt from this holy verse that they respond to hostility and wrongdoing with kindness, patience and what is best, transforming hostile actions into understanding and friendship while rising above disputes rather than permitting hatred and anger to gain control over their actions.
