AL DUQM: Asyad Drydock completed 130 projects and attracted 56 new international clients in the first eight months of 2026, taking its total client base to approximately 900, the company said.
The Asyad Group subsidiary completed 119 vessel repair and maintenance projects and 11 industrial projects during the period, Chief Executive Officer Ahmed bin Ali al Balushi said.
Around 40 per cent of the new clients came from markets in the Middle East and the Far East, he said in a statement.
The results underline Duqm’s growing role in maritime services, supported by ship repair facilities and links with ports and industrial operations within the Special Economic Zone at Duqm.
Al Balushi said the company carried out 10 concurrent docking projects for the first time this year. Docking two vessels side by side at the quay and maintaining both simultaneously helped improve quay utilisation and increase the number of projects handled in parallel.
Separately, the company carried out maintenance and repair work on 27 vessels at the same time, setting another operational record, he said.
The floating dock serviced 13 vessels by the end of August 2026, compared with two in the corresponding period of 2025, expanding the facility’s capacity to handle vessel maintenance.
Asyad Drydock is also working on two new shipbuilding projects for different applications, following the completion and delivery of three projects to clients in local and Gulf markets in recent years.
Al Balushi said the expansion was supporting local businesses as well as increasing the company’s workload.
During the first eight months of the year, Asyad Drydock awarded contracts and purchase orders worth RO 6.5 million to small and medium-sized enterprises and RO 12.5 million to local companies. The company said local awards represented 81 per cent of the total value of contracts awarded.
The spending supports domestic supply chains and creates opportunities for Omani businesses in ship repair, maintenance, shipbuilding and related industries, Al Balushi said.
He added that the development of these services was helping Duqm attract maritime business from international markets. — ONA
