Celine Dion gave Paris Fashion Week an unexpected musical opening on Monday, stepping onto the catwalk beneath the Eiffel Tower to perform her hit “I’m Alive”.
The Canadian singer appeared at the end of L’Oréal’s annual show in a sleek black gown, drawing applause from the crowd before launching into the 2002 song. With her hair loose and a smile on her face, she turned the runway into a stage for one of the week’s most memorable moments.
She was then joined by L’Oréal ambassadors Viola Davis, Simone Ashley, Aja Naomi King and Eva Longoria, adding to the star power at one of the fashion calendar’s most glamorous openings.
The surprise appearance comes as Dion makes a much-publicised return to performing in the French capital. The Quebec-born star has announced a 26-show Paris run, with 16 performances scheduled for September and October and another 10 planned for May 2027.
Her song choice gave the moment added resonance for an audience seeing her back in the spotlight. Rather than appearing as a guest in the front row, Dion took centre stage as the fashion world gathered for the start of the spring-summer womenswear shows.
Paris Fashion Week runs until October 6, with Dior, Tom Ford, Schiaparelli and Givenchy among the labels still due to present their latest collections.
Whether Dion will make another appearance during the week remains to be seen, but her performance has already given this season’s shows a dramatic opening. The singer could yet be spotted in the front row as the programme continues across the city.
