MUSCAT: Asyad Shipping Company has taken delivery of Ain Al Sarooj, the first of two Kamsarmax dry bulk carriers it agreed to buy earlier this year, and the vessel has gone straight into a one-year time charter. In a disclosure to the Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX), publicly traded Asyad Shipping announced that the vessel would contribute to its revenue immediately.
Its sister vessel, Ain Al Thawarah, is expected to be delivered by the end of November 2026. It has already secured employment under a two-year time charter, the company said.
Asyad Shipping signed the agreement to buy the two second-hand vessels on April 22, 2026, for a total consideration of approximately RO 28 million. Both were built in 2023, and each has a capacity of 85,000 deadweight tonnes DWT.
Dr Ibrahim al Nadhairi, Chief Executive Officer of Asyad Shipping, said the two additions would bring the company's dry bulk segment to 18 owned vessels, with a combined carrying capacity of more than 3 million DWT.
"This owned fleet is further supplemented by vessels chartered in from the market," he said.
Al Nadhairi said the dry bulk fleet includes VLOC, Newcastlemax, Baby-Cape, Kamsarmax and Ultramax vessels. He described it as one of the largest and most diverse in the region, and said the mix allows the company "to serve our customers and establish our global presence".
Asyad Shipping has operated for more than 20 years. It runs a fleet of about 90 vessels across five segments (crude, dry bulk, gas, liner and products) and serves more than 60 countries, according to the company.
