Saudi Arabia is celebrating its 96th National Day today, with cities across the Kingdom taking on a festive atmosphere as people mark the anniversary of the country’s unification.
Observed annually on September 23, the National Day commemorates the proclamation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1932 by King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud.
The celebrations feature a nationwide programme of airshows, naval displays, military parades and fireworks, organised by the General Entertainment Authority (GEA) in cooperation with government and private sector entities.
Riyadh is hosting the main National Day celebrations on September 22 and 23, with the programme including a guard of honour procession by the Royal Guard, accompanied by a military band, as well as helicopter formations by the Ministry of National Guard.
The aerial displays also feature a helicopter carrying the Saudi flag, while Riyadh Air is participating with a Boeing 787. The Royal Saudi Land Forces, Border Guard and Aviation Club are showcasing their activities through dedicated pavilions at the event site in Malham.
In Jeddah, the Royal Saudi Naval Forces are staging maritime displays involving several vessels along the Red Sea coast. The Border Guard is also holding land and maritime parades at ROSHN Waterfront, alongside events in Yanbu, Abha and Al Birk.
The celebrations will culminate today with fireworks in nine cities across the Kingdom.
National Day activities will continue in the Eastern Province, with Al Khobar Waterfront scheduled to host airshows on September 26 and 27, featuring military aircraft and the first participation of Aloula Aviation.
