MUSCAT: Oman is not currently witnessing an increase in dengue fever cases, while the number of cases recorded this year has shown a significant decline, the Ministry of Health said.
The ministry said dengue is associated with seasons and climatic conditions that support mosquito breeding, including high temperatures, humidity and stagnant water during the rainy season.
The viral disease is transmitted through the bite of an infected Aedes aegypti mosquito. Symptoms may include high fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, skin rash and severe fatigue.
The ministry urged residents to prevent mosquito breeding by regularly cleaning and emptying water containers, changing water in fountains, swimming pools and animal drinking containers, tightly covering water tanks and removing stagnant water and waste around homes.
