Muscat: The autumnal equinox will occur at 4:05am Oman time on Wednesday, September 23, marking the beginning of astronomical autumn in the Northern Hemisphere, the Department of Astronomical Affairs said.
The equinox occurs when the Sun crosses the equator, with its rays falling nearly perpendicular to the equatorial region. As a result, day and night become approximately equal in length in many parts of the world.
The event marks the beginning of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere and spring in the Southern Hemisphere.
The autumnal equinox is one of two equinoxes that occur each year as the Earth moves along its orbit around the Sun.
