This year, Armenia celebrates the 35th anniversary of independence. 0n September 2lst 1991, the Armenian people voted to restore their independent statehood and reaffirm their right to freedom, sovereignty and self-determination. Despite the challenges and hardships of the past 35 years, Armenia continues its journey toward building a strong, democratic and prosperous state.
Today, amid profound geopolitical transformations, Armenia is adapting politically and economically to a rapidly changing world. These challenges remind us that peace and stability are a shared responsibility, requiring international cooperation and mutual respect to ensure that all peoples can live and prosper in peace and dignity.
Guided by this vision, Armenia has prioritised relations with the Arab world, establishing diplomatic ties with all Arab states and close cooperation with the League of Arab States and the Gulf Cooperation Council. These relations are further strengthened by historic Armenian communities across the region, which have contributed to their societies for centuries and continue to serve as important bridges between our
peoples.
Notably, Oman was the first Arab country to establish diplomatic relations with Armenia in 1992, opening a new chapter in our centuries-old cultural and civilisational ties. A major milestone in the Armenian-Omani bilateral relations was the establishment of the resident Embassy of Armenia in Muscat last September, followed by its official opening on March 18, 2026 in the honourable presence of the Foreign Ministers of the two countries.
Today, our countries are actively expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, agriculture, transport and logistics, information technologies, tourism, renewable energy, education and culture. These efforts are already producing tangible results. Bilateral trade has grown significantly in recent months, with Armenian fruits entering the Omani market and further expansion of both trade volumes and product varieties expected. Tourism is another promising area. Following the reciprocal removal of visa requirements, our next objective is to establish regular direct flights between Armenia and Oman, further strengthening tourism and people-to-people contacts. We are actively working with our Omani colleagues on expanding cultural, scientific and educational cooperation through joint exhibitions, academic exchanges, research initiatives and cultural performances further enhancing ties between our societies and peoples.
Our cooperation continues to expand into renewable energy and sustainable development. Next month, Armenia will host COP17 of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, and we look forward to welcoming a high-level Omani delegation and using this important occasion to explore opportunities for cooperation in biodiversity, environmental protection and sustainable development.
Relations between Armenia and Oman have always been founded on mutual respect, friendship and shared values of peaceful coexistence, tolerance and cooperation. Armenia has consistently supported efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East, while highly appreciating Oman's important role in this regard.
The Sultanate of Oman's growing international standing and constructive regional role were also among the key factors behind our decision to establish a resident Embassy in Muscat. Guided by the principles of peaceful coexistence and good neighbourliness, Armenia has consistently worked to establish peace in the South Caucasus. During the historic August 2025 Washington summit the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan signed the Joint Declaration for peace, followed by initialisation of the draft agreement on the Establishment of Peace and lnter-State Relations between the two states.
This major milestone laid the foundation for the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), promoting regional connectivity and economic development. We are particularly pleased to note that the friendly Sultanate of 0man was among the first to welcome this historic achievement and has since reaffirmed its support for efforts aimed at establishing and strengthening peace in the South Caucasus.
Armenia is confident that our partners in the Gulf are also closely following initiatives aimed at expanding regional connectivity and infrastructure networks, and that through joint efforts we will be able to realise the existing potential.
