

Muscat: The General Federation of Oman Workers (GFOW) has launched the Football League for Trade Unions in Dhofar as part of its efforts to enhance workers’ quality of life and promote trade union activities through innovative approaches. The league is taking place from September 13 to 22, 2026 at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Recreation in Salalah.
The sporting event aims to promote workers’ physical and mental well-being, harness sport to strengthen professional and social relations, and foster communication and a sense of trade union belonging among trade union members. It also seeks to raise trade union awareness, encourage trade union membership, and establish a sustainable trade union sporting experience in preparation for extending it to trade unions across other governorates.
The league features nine teams representing nine trade unions at establishments operating in Dhofar Governorate: the Trade Union of Alpek Polyester (Octal), the Trade Union of Al Safa Food Company, the Trade Union of Oman Pharmaceutical Products Company, the Trade Union of Atteen Hotel Management Company (Al Fanar Hotel), the Trade Union of Carmeuse Majan Establishment, the Trade Union of Salalah Ports Services Company, the Trade Union of Taqa Hotel Management Company (Rotana Resort), the Trade Union of Dhofar Integrated Services Company, and the Trade Union of Salalah Beach Tourism Development Company.
