The Muscat Governorate is currently surveying government and private buildings—as well as public facilities—in the capital regarding accessibility standards for persons with disabilities.
According to an official statement, a team is working to assess the current situation, identify challenges, and build a clearer picture of the level of accessibility provided in these buildings and facilities.
The team held a meeting recently at the Office of the Wali of Muscat and reviewed the its s mandate and operational procedures, as well as the survey form and the facilities targeted for assessment.
Discussions also focused on avenues for cooperation and coordination to foster a more inclusive environment that enables persons with disabilities to easily access services and facilities.
The accessibility includes providing a ramp to reach the door of a building or an apartment, dedicated pathways from the parking lots or public transport stations or on the roads for persons with disabilities to reach their destinations, including homes.
