NIZWA: Nama Electricity Distribution is implementing electricity infrastructure projects worth more than RO 20.497 million across Al Dakhiliyah Governorate as it seeks to strengthen grid capacity and reliability amid urban and population growth.
The projects include new and upgraded substations, additional 33-kV feeders and network automation, as well as infrastructure designed to support renewable-energy integration and digital management of the distribution network.
Yousuf bin Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Head of Technical Affairs at Nama Electricity Distribution, said the investments were intended to increase grid efficiency and capacity while improving supply quality for residential, commercial and industrial consumers.
The programme includes expansion and reinforcement of the electricity network and new connections for homes, industrial facilities and commercial establishments.
Among the largest individual projects is the construction of a substation at Sayya in the Wilayat of Bahla with a capacity of 2x6 MVA at a cost of RO 3.268 million.
In Nizwa, the company is constructing the Nizwa City 2 substation with a capacity of 3x20 MVA at a cost of RO 2.333 million, while the Al Mu'aimir substation, with the same capacity, will cost about RO 2.282 million.
Another RO 2.1 million is being invested in the Shafi substation at Shafi Camp in the Wilayat of Izki. The facility will have a capacity of 2x20 MVA and include 33-kV and 11-kV feeders.
Nama is also upgrading the Al Bashair substation in the Wilayat of Adam, raising its capacity from 2x6 MVA to 3x6 MVA. The RO 1.263-million project includes 33-kV and 11-kV feeders.
Additional 33-kV feeders are being constructed from the Birkat Al Mawz primary substation in the Wilayat of Nizwa at a cost of RO 619,656.
The company is spending a further RO 5.19 million on expanding the 33-kV switchgear room at the Adam primary substation and constructing the Birkat Al Mawz and Samail Industrial primary substations.
Other works include installing 33-kV feeders in Samail Industrial Area at a cost of RO 82,636.
At the Adam Main Station, Nama is relocating 33-kV feeders from the old switchgear room to a new facility at a cost of RO 27,292, while testing and commissioning power and control cables for the station’s 33/11-kV transformer will cost RO 24,240.
Al Mahrouqi said the wider development programme also covers grid automation and smart management systems aimed at improving operational flexibility, reducing network losses and facilitating the integration of renewable-energy sources.
The projects are being implemented according to approved schedules and operational safety and quality standards, he said, with additional capacity intended to accommodate continuing development and electricity demand growth across Al Dakhiliyah. — ONA
