MUSCAT: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology continues to implement a number of road projects, including paving, maintenance, and rehabilitation in Dhofar Governorate. The aim is to enhance connectivity between the governorate’s wilayats and meet the demands of economic, social, and tourism development, while improving road safety and traffic flow.
The Directorate-General of Roads and Land Transport in Dhofar Governorate is implementing several strategic, service, maintenance, and rehabilitation projects. Eng Mohammed bin Ahmed Tabouk, Director of the Road Design and Construction Department at the Directorate-General of Roads and Land Transport in Dhofar Governorate, explained that the average completion rate for the Sultan Said bin Taimur dual carriageway project (sections three, four, and five) has reached 27 per cent. This section spans approximately 400 km and has a total cost exceeding RO 258 million. He noted that the completion rate for the Raysut-Al Mughsail dual carriageway project reached 44 per cent by the end of last August. The project spans approximately 33 km and includes overpasses, underpasses, animal crossings, and two roundabouts. It connects the Raysut area to the Al Mughsail area and links the 18th November Road to the dual carriageway, a distance of 5.5 km.
Eng Mohammed bin Ahmed Tabouk said that the Al Khairat-Al Shisr road project in the Wilayat of Thamrait has reached an implementation rate of 95 per cent. The project is being implemented in cooperation with the Najd Agricultural Development Office, due to its importance in serving agricultural areas and supporting food security requirements.
The road is 46 km long, starting from the intersection of Sultan Said bin Taimur Road with the Saih Al Khairat area and ending in the Niyabat of Al Shisr.
He added that construction work on the Al Shisr-Bethnah-Al Hashman road project is underway, with a completion rate of 29 per cent. The road is approximately 86 kilometres long. The project extends from the Niyabat of Al Shisr to the Bethnah area, reaching the Niyabat of Al Hashman. It is divided into two sections: the first, from the Niyabat of Al Shisr to Bethnah, with a distance of 45.35 km, and the second, from Bethnah to the Niyabat of Al Hashman, with a distance of 40.40 km.
