MUSCAT: Future Fund Oman (FFO) is backing the development of Muscat's first hospital dedicated to women's health, in what Oman Investment Authority (OIA) has described as a significant addition to the Sultanate of Oman's healthcare sector.

The Maternal and Fetal Care Center project, one of FFO's portfolio investments, will combine specialised care with advanced medical technologies and innovations to enhance the quality of healthcare services for mothers and fetuses, OIA said in a post on its official social-media channels.

The investment adds to FFO's growing footprint in healthcare, which the fund has identified as a priority sector alongside renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, tourism, medical technologies, innovation and food industries.

In June, FFO unveiled a portfolio of 105 projects and investments worth RO 583 million, comprising RO 225 million in commitments from the fund, around RO 176 million in local investment and approximately RO 182 million in foreign direct investment. The projects are expected to generate 2,302 jobs.

Healthcare featured prominently in that package. FFO announced a RO 50 million Healthcare Investment Fund targeting opportunities in healthcare services, pharmaceuticals, medical technologies, digital health, diagnostics, insurance and medical research, with the stated aims of improving healthcare quality and localising medical industries. The fund also committed RO 77 million to Vivo Capital Fund, a global life-sciences investment platform.

FFO was launched in early 2024 as OIA's vehicle for directing capital into national priority sectors, attracting foreign partners and widening private-sector participation in economic diversification under Oman Vision 2040. OIA allocated RO 400 million of its RO 800 million contribution to the state budget in 2025 to the fund.
