A new recovery and rehabilitation centre planned for Thumrait is expected to be complete within 18 to 24 months, as its developers prepare the first phase of a wider network they plan to expand across Oman and eventually into the GCC.
Partners behind the Dhofar Recovery Center told the Oman Observer that work on the Thumrait facility is expected to begin following the signing of an agreement on Sunday. The centre will focus on prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and supporting recovering patients as they reintegrate into society.
“We are going to build it in Thumrait. We signed the agreement today and will start now,” Diva Unnikrishnan, a partner in the project, said in an exclusive interview. “The plan is to complete it within 18 to 24 months.”
The developers said the facility would combine preventive programmes with clinical treatment, rehabilitation and longer-term support, drawing on mental-health specialists, data-driven approaches and international expertise. Sakshi Kyla Chhapolia, co-founder and partner of the Dhofar Recovery Center, said Thumrait would serve as the starting point for a broader expansion programme.“We are starting phase one with Thumrait, and it will be expanded into Salalah and multiple centres across Oman,” she said.
She added that the longer-term vision was to establish a wider network in the Sultanate over the next three to five years, followed by potential expansion into other GCC markets. The project is being developed as a social-impact initiative, with its partners saying they are working with the Ministry of Health, the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Social Investment Center.According to the developers, institutional support is expected to include technical expertise, strategic cooperation, infrastructure development and project facilitation.
The partners said the initiative would primarily serve Omani citizens, particularly young people, with an emphasis on improving access to recovery and rehabilitation services.They also said some services are intended to be provided free of charge, although details on eligibility, funding arrangements and the scope of such services have yet to be formally disclosed. The recovery model is expected to extend beyond clinical treatment, beginning with prevention and continuing through rehabilitation and social reintegration. Unnikrishnan said the project would also draw on international expertise and modern approaches to mental-health care and data in developing its programmes.
The Thumrait centre forms part of a broader vision for the Dhofar Recovery Center, which its developers are positioning as an integrated healthcare and rehabilitation initiative.The partners said the project is aligned with Oman Vision 2040 objectives related to health, human development, social wellbeing and sustainable investment.
