MUSCAT: The 2026-27 Jindal League moves from preparation to action on Sunday as seven first-round fixtures open a campaign carrying early tests for Omani clubs.
The opening programme will be played across Sunday and Monday, with the first whistle set for Al Buraimi Sports Complex, where Al Nahda host promoted Al Musannah at 5:55 pm. Al Nasr then begin against returning giants Fanja at Al Saada Sports Complex at 7:05 pm, before defending champions Seeb launch their title defence against Bahla at Nizwa Sports Complex at 8:15 pm.
The round continues on Monday with Oman Club facing Dhofar at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex at 5:40 pm, followed five minutes later by Samayil against Saham at Nizwa Sports Complex. The evening closes with two 8:15 pm kick-offs, as Sur welcome last season's runners-up Al Shabab at Sur Sports Complex and Sohar take on Ibri at Sohar Sports Complex.
The new season brings together 14 clubs: Seeb, Al Shabab, Al Nasr, Al Nahda, Bahla, Oman Club, Sohar, Sur, Dhofar, Samayil, Saham, Ibri, Fanja and Al Musannah. Fanja and Al Musannah return to the top flight after winning promotion from the First Division, replacing Al Rustaq and Al Khabourah, relegated last season.
Seeb enter as the team to beat after a commanding 2025-26 campaign in which they finished on 67 points, ahead of Al Shabab on 54 and Al Nasr on 53. Their consistency across 26 rounds, built on 21 victories, four draws and just one defeat, confirmed their authority and gave the rest of the league a clear target.
182 FIXTURES
This season will again follow the full league format, with each club playing 26 matches home and away, producing 182 fixtures. The competition continues under the Jindal banner following the sponsorship partnership between the Oman Football Association and Jindal Steel, a deal that also supports formation centres and youth development.
The 2026-27 edition begins under tighter organisational requirements. The updated regulations contain 73 articles, with prize money for the top six clubs set at RO 130,000, including RO 50,000 for the champions. Club squad lists are capped at 35 players, with a maximum of four foreign players, no foreign goalkeepers, and a requirement to register at least five players born in 2005.
The early rounds could shape momentum quickly. Round two, scheduled for September 5 and 6, offers major fixtures, including Al Shabab against Al Nahda, Seeb against Sur and the Dhofar derby between Dhofar and Al Nasr in Salalah.
The wider football calendar adds another layer of pressure. Oman's national team commitments, including Gulf Cup 27 in Saudi Arabia and the AFC Asian Cup in January 2027, are expected to create stoppages during the season, making depth, rotation and consistency decisive factors.
