TUNIS: The branch of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) in the Wilayat of Ibri, Governorate of Al Dhahirah, made a global accomplishment in the field of ‘University Theatre’, during its participation in the activities of the 20th edition of the International University Theatre Festival, held in the city of Monastir in the Republic of Tunisia from August 8 to 17, 2026.

The festival brought together about 350 students and innovators from 15 Arab and foreign countries. It was attended by Dr Hilal bin Abdullah al Sinani, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Republic of Tunisia.

The UTAS student theatre group bagged a number of awards, including first place in the Best Scenography Award contest and second place in the Best Actor Award contest (through the contributions of student Abdulaziz bin Abdullah al Ghafri), in addition to an ‘Encouragement Award’ for the Best Play Script (awarded to writer Maram bint Ali al Muqbali). The UTAS also received an award from the Tunisian Ministry of Higher Education and Research.

The Omani ambassador commended the participation of Omani students, noting that such a festival offered an opportunity for their students to exchange experiences and ideas with their counterparts from different countries. - ONA
