As summer temperatures rise across the region, Omanis seeking a cooler escape can now discover a new destination just four and a half hours from Muscat.

Sochi, a city on Russia’s Black Sea coast, has gained attention following the launch of direct flights from Muscat by Oman Air. Known as the Russian Riviera, Sochi combines beaches and a seaside atmosphere with mountains, valleys, rivers and lush landscapes, offering Omani travellers a diverse summer getaway.

“Our network continues to evolve as we identify opportunities to connect Oman with high-potential markets”, said Con Korfiatis, Chief Executive Officer of Oman Air. “The launch of Sochi builds on the strong performance of our Moscow services and reflects growing point to point demand between Russia and Oman”.

The new route provides a convenient option for Omanis looking for a destination that offers family-friendly activities, nature and leisure without a long journey. Whether the interest is shopping, dining, sightseeing or relaxation, Sochi offers something for different types of travellers.

The city is also known for its international sporting legacy, having hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics, the Russian Grand Prix from 2014 to 2021 and matches during the 2018 Fifa World Cup.

One of the city’s highlights is the Grand Marina in downtown Sochi, where visitors can stroll along the harbour, enjoy coffee at waterfront cafés and watch the sunset over the Black Sea.

“I really enjoyed my stay in Sochi; I got the chance to do everything I love”, said Adnan al Amri, an Omani who chose Sochi for his summer holiday. “My recommendation would be to have your morning coffee next to the Grand Marina, while admiring the cloudy sky and the crystal-clear ocean. My favourite part of my stay was Rosa Khutor and the beautiful views I got to see from above the clouds”.

For nature lovers, Rosa Khutor offers a striking contrast to the coastal city. Surrounded by green mountains, rivers and flower-filled landscapes, the resort provides opportunities for walking, sightseeing and cable car rides, with peaks rising to more than 2,300 metres above sea level.

Families can head to Sochi Park, a theme park featuring rides for children and adults, as well as a dolphinarium, circus and theatre. Meanwhile, adventure seekers can visit Sky Park, home to suspension bridges, zip lines and bungee jumping experiences set amidst mountain scenery.

From the Black Sea waterfront to the Caucasus Mountains, Sochi offers Omani travellers a summer holiday that combines relaxation, adventure and nature, all within a direct flight from Muscat.
