MUSCATOman Environmental Services Holding Company (be’ah) directed 23.4 per cent of its total budget to small and medium enterprises in 2025, awarding 35 purchases and contracts worth RO 4 million to SMEs and Riyada cardholders, as the company advanced an integrated growth model built on innovation, digital transformation and local content, according to its 2025 Sustainability Report.

The company’s In-Country Value (ICV) Index rose to 38.4 per cent in 2025 from 35.65 per cent a year earlier, reflecting structured local supplier inclusion across procurement. be’ah reported total revenue of RO 17.9 million for the year against expenditure of RO 98.5 million, with RO 25,749 invested in research, development and innovation (RDI).

On the innovation front, be’ah’s Business Technology Mapping exercise gathered 175 attendees across 18 engagement sessions, identifying 30 technical challenges and 21 opportunities for prioritisation. Through the Qimam Hackathon and Sunnaa Al Afkar platforms, 53 youth teams participated, with five addressing be’ah-specific challenges in construction and demolition (C&D) waste utilisation, smart waste bins and leachate treatment. EcoLeachTech, a team from the National University of Science and Technology, secured second place for a leachate treatment solution using extracts from Omani date pits as a natural coagulant, while Dhofar-based SME Wadi Ronneb took third place for converting recycled C&D materials into ready-to-use cold asphalt, now being piloted with be’ah.

The Eco-Innovate Oman accelerator drew 61 applications, shortlisting 35 companies and graduating ten, including ventures in water filtration, recycled-materials marketplaces and sustainable retail.

In digital transformation, around 60 per cent of be’ah core IT services were operating in the cloud by year-end, supported by new data centres and a disaster recovery site. The company enhanced its cloud-based ERP platform, deployed a CRM system for municipal and healthcare waste services and launched the “Manaa” mobile application enabling residents to request services digitally. A newly established Security Operations Centre provided round-the-clock monitoring, with be’ah reporting zero major security breaches during the year.

Customer satisfaction surveys returned scores of 92 per cent for healthcare waste services, 91 per cent for industrial and hazardous waste and 85.7 per cent for business-to-business municipal solid waste services.
