SALALAH: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning has signed ten agricultural usufruct contracts for the establishment of projects in the agricultural and livestock sectors in Dhofar Governorate, with a total investment value exceeding RO 2 million and covering an area of over 2,000 feddans. The signing took place as part of the activities of the 2026 Food Security Forum and Exhibition, currently being held in the Wilayat of Salalah.
The signed contracts are distributed across the wilayats of Maqshin, Thamrait, Shaleem and Al Hallaniyat Islands, and encompass a range of productive activities and projects, including crop cultivation, watermelon and cantaloupe production, poultry farming, and the cultivation of both seasonal and non-seasonal crops. This reflects the diversity of investment opportunities linked to the food security sector in Dhofar Governorate.
The contracts are part of the ministry's efforts to utilise government land in support of economically and developmentally viable investments, and to provide the real estate enablers for investment projects through the usufruct system. This contributes to strengthening food security projects, boosting local production, and encouraging the private sector to establish sustainable agricultural and livestock ventures.
The contracts were signed on behalf of the ministry by Eng Khalfan bin Masoud al Naabi, Director-General of Housing and Urban Planning in Dhofar Governorate, alongside representatives of a number of local companies and institutions. These projects are expected to support national objectives related to economic diversification, investment promotion, the development of productive sectors, and the achievement of sustainability within the food security ecosystem.
The ministry emphasises the importance of integrated coordination between government entities and the private sector in creating a conducive investment environment, maximising the utilisation of government land, and directing it towards high-value-added projects, thereby reinforcing the food security system and enhancing the contribution of productive sectors to the national economy. - ONA
