MUSCAT: Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority, in its August 2026 seasonal bulletin, forecast that rainfall in October is expected to be above the climatic average across Oman, following forecasts for the current and coming months, August and September, which pointed to below-average or near-average rainfall.
The forecast comes as several governorates have seen notable rainfall activity in recent days. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources recorded varying rainfall amounts across a number of wilayats between August 8 and 9, led by Al Hamra with 61mm, followed by Yanqul with 48mm, Ibri with 45mm and Salalah with 36mm, while amounts in Bahla, Al Jabal Al Akhdhar and Al Buraimi ranged between 21mm and 26mm.
Zaher al Shaqsi, a meteorology researcher, stated on social media that local cloud systems had formed, accompanied by thundery rain and active winds over parts of Al Sharqiyah North, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Dhahirah and Al Buraimi, noting the possibility of dust storms extending into desert areas followed by thundery rain.
Dr Mazin al Busaidy, PhD in Artificial Intelligence & Cybersecurity, stated on social media, citing the latest radar imagery from the Civil Aviation Authority, that cumulus cloud activity continues along the Al Hajar Mountains and surrounding areas, with chances of thundery rain sometimes accompanied by active downdrafts and hail.
