MUSCAT: Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) will participate in the 20th Asian Games “Aichi-Nagoya 2026,” to be held in Japan from September 19 to October 4, with Omani athletes competing in 10 sports: athletics, taekwondo, shooting, hockey, golf, fencing, cricket, weightlifting, sailing and beach volleyball.
Oman’s participation forms part of its continental sporting commitments, with the national teams aiming to deliver competitive performances that reflect their preparations and readiness for one of Asia’s biggest multi-sport events.
The Omani delegation will be headed by Mohammed bin Hamad al Rahbi, Chef de Mission, with Hanaa bint Said al Battashi serving as Deputy Chef de Mission. The administrative team also includes Majid bin Khamis al Hinai and Said bin Darwish al Jarjashi, Safeguarding Officer Salim bin Mohammed al Rawahi, team doctor Dr Afrah bint Hamoud al Jabri, physiotherapist Khalil bin Khalfan al Busaidy, journalist Waleed bin Zaher al Abri and photographer Haitham bin Salim aAl Shukairi.
OOC is continuing preparations by completing the logistical and administrative requirements and ensuring appropriate arrangements for athletes and accompanying teams.
The national hockey team will compete from September 18 to October 3, with 10 players and eight technical and administrative staff members.
Oman’s shooting team will compete from September 20 to October 1 with six male and two female athletes, accompanied by four technical and administrative staff members. The team will contest individual skeet, individual trap, 10m air pistol, 10m individual air rifle, 10m mixed air rifle, 50m three-position individual rifle and 25m pistol.
The beach volleyball team will compete from September 20 to October 3 with four players and one coach.
In fencing, four male and three female athletes will compete from September 22 to 27, supported by two technical and administrative staff members. Oman will contest individual and team foil as well as individual and team épée.
Three weightlifters, accompanied by two technical and administrative staff members, will compete from September 23 to 29 in the 75 kg, 85 kg and 95 kg categories.
Athletics will feature one of Oman’s largest squads, with eight male and three female athletes supported by six technical and administrative staff members from September 24 to 29. Oman will contest the 100m, 200m, men’s 4x100m relay, mixed 4x100m relay, high jump, long jump, triple jump and hammer throw.
The national cricket team will compete from September 24 to October 3 with 15 players and four technical and administrative staff members.
In sailing, four athletes and three technical and administrative staff members will take part from September 26 to October 3, with Oman competing in the 49er class.
The national golf team will compete from September 30 to October 3, represented by one player and one coach.
Oman’s programme will conclude with taekwondo from October 1 to 3, with one athlete competing in the -58 kg category accompanied by one coach.
The 20th Asian Games will be staged across venues in Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya, as well as selected venues outside the two main host areas. The event marks the third time Japan has hosted the Asian Games, following Tokyo in 1958 and Hiroshima in 1994.
Featuring 43 sports, the Games will bring together athletes from across Asia and provide Oman’s representatives with an important opportunity to compete at the highest continental level and gain valuable international experience.
