Grammy-winning British musician and producer William Orbit, whose work helped reshape music for artists including Madonna, Britney Spears and U2, has died aged 69, his family and friends announced.
The London-born musician died at home on July 23, according to a statement shared on his Instagram account. His family said he would be greatly missed by those touched by his music, friendship and kindness.
Orbit was best known for producing Madonna's 1998 album "Ray of Light", which moved the US star further into electronica and trip-hop. His work on the record earned him two of his three Grammy Awards.
He later worked with Madonna on her 2000 album "Music" and co-wrote and performed on the 1999 single "Beautiful Stranger". The song, featured in the film "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me", brought him another Grammy for best song written for visual media.
Orbit also received Grammy nominations for his work on Pink's "Feel Good Time", his 2000 album "Pieces in a Modern Style" and "Ray of Light", which was nominated for record of the year.
His production credits included work with Britpop band Blur, girl group All Saints and Spice Girls member Mel C, who described collaborating with him as an honour.
He also worked with Britney Spears and Will.i.am on the 2013 album "Britney Jean" and produced two tracks included on U2's compilation "The Best of 1990-2000".
Alongside his production career, Orbit released 12 studio albums, featuring electronic music, and performed with the groups Bassomatic and Torch Song.— AFP
