Sufi music brought a sense of calm to Muscat on July 20 as audiences gathered for Ishq-e-Sufi 2026, an evening celebrating culture and international friendship.
Organised by Muscat Sky Events, the event welcomed diplomats, government representatives, business leaders and members of diverse communities, highlighting art’s role in promoting cultural exchange and mutual understanding.
Sufi music is a devotional art rooted in Islamic mysticism, with traditions including Qawwali, Sema — music associated with whirling dervishes — and Kafi, inspired by poets such as Rumi and Amir Khusrow.
The programme featured Omani singer Haitham Rafi and Bangladesh’s Musafir Sufiyana Band. Their fusion of Sufi styles captivated the audience and earned standing ovations.
"Performing in front of such an elite audience is worth the time and effort. The melancholic beauty of Sufi ghazal was truly a bliss for musicians like us as well as the audience, which was really inspiring", said one of the musicians.
The performances blended Qawwali, Sema and folk Sufism, reflecting Oman’s multicultural identity and peaceful coexistence.

The evening served as a platform for cultural diplomacy, reinforcing tolerance, inclusion and cooperation through music.
