Nadhira Al Harthy was an Omani mountaineer who carried the nation’s name to some of the highest and most demanding peaks on Earth.
Her journey began far from the summit. She started her career as a geography teacher and later worked at Oman’s Ministry of Education. But her growing passion for nature and adventure eventually led her towards the mountains.
In 2019, she made history as the first Omani woman—and the second Omani overall—to reach the summit of Mount Everest. She later climbed several of the world’s highest peaks, including Manaslu, K2 and Nanga Parbat.
On July 30, 2026, while attempting to climb Broad Peak in Pakistan’s Karakoram range, Nadhira lost her life in an avalanche below Camp III.
She died pursuing the path she had chosen with courage and determination.
Her legacy remains far greater than any summit—a powerful symbol of Omani ambition, resilience and the courage to go beyond limits.
