MUSCAT: Oman Airports on Tuesday marked the official launch of Air Tanzania's direct passenger service between Muscat International Airport and Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam, expanding air links between Oman and East Africa.
The state-owned carrier will operate three weekly flights, strengthening connectivity between the Sultanate of Oman and Tanzania while supporting tourism, trade and investment.
Peter Rudolph Olomi, Chief Executive Officer of Air Tanzania, said the new route represented an important milestone for the airline and would deepen long-standing ties between the two countries.
He said the direct connection was expected to increase passenger traffic between Oman and Tanzania; and encourage more visitors from the Sultanate of Oman to destinations including Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania, which share historical and cultural links with Oman.
Olomi said demand for the new service had been encouraging, with passengers using Muscat as well as onward connections to other Tanzanian cities and neighbouring countries.
"The route offers strong long-term potential, supported by the deep historical and cultural relationship between Tanzania and the Sultanate of Oman", he told reporters.
Saud bin Abdulaziz al Azizi, Head of Corporate Support at Oman Airports, said the airline would operate three direct flights a week between Muscat and Dar es Salaam, in line with Oman Airports' strategy of expanding its international route network.
He said the new service would strengthen economic and social ties between the two countries while improving connectivity between the Gulf Cooperation Council and East Africa.
Al Azizi said the route further reinforces Muscat International Airport's role as a regional gateway linking high-growth markets and is expected to support increased tourism, trade, investment and people-to-people exchanges between Oman and Tanzania.
