Low pollution, high Safety: Muscat tops quality of life

Muscat: The Numbeo Mid-Year 2026 has ranked the capital Muscat first in Asia for Quality of life with 180.3 points.

Numbeo 2026 Mid-Year Index is a global database that analyses key developments in quality of life, cost of living, property investment, and healthcare benchmarks, which is sourced through a hybrid system that combines crowdsourcing with manual data verification.

Other GCC cities that follow Muscat are Manama (171.9), Doha (169.2), Abu Dhabi (169), Dubai (168.7), which figure in the top 10.

The capital is ranked second in Asia and in the world in the Pollution Index with 35.9 points, and only Singapore (32.5 points) is behind Muscat.

The city is ranked very high for Air Quality, Drinking Water Quality and Accessibility, Garbage Disposal Satisfaction, Clean and Tidy, Quiet and No Problem with Night Lights, Water Quality, Comfortable to Spend Time in the City, and Quality of Green and Parks

Safety

The Sultanate of Oman is rated very high in the Safety index for low level of crime, worries about home being broken into, and things being stolen, worries being mugged or robbed, worries about car being stolen, worries attacked, and problems with violent crimes such as assault and armed robbery.

It is very safe to walk alone during daylight and highly safe to walk alone at night.

It takes 22.25 minutes to cover 23.72 km in Muscat while commuting to work or school.
