MUSCAT: The Ministry of Health (MoH) has clarified that a circular currently being circulated regarding mandatory drug screening for newly recruited employees in government entities and private establishments is an internal directive intended for discussion among relevant departments within the ministry.
In a statement issued on Monday, the ministry said the circular aims to review implementation mechanisms and that any decision to enforce such a measure would be carried out in coordination with the concerned authorities, with clear procedures and timelines to be announced officially.
The ministry stressed that no final implementation decision has yet been adopted and that details of any approved framework would be communicated through official channels.
MoH added that it is continuing efforts to strengthen an integrated health policy framework aimed at preventing the risks associated with narcotic and psychotropic substance abuse, limiting their spread, protecting the community, and reinforcing occupational health and safety standards in workplaces.
The ministry also reaffirmed that it would announce implementation procedures and stages through its official platforms once any decision is formally approved, urging the public to rely on official sources for updates and information.
