MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MoAFWR) participated via videoconference in the extraordinary meeting of the GCC Agricultural Cooperation and Food Security Committee.

Dr Saud bin Hamoud al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources headed the Omani delegation at the meeting.

The meeting, which brought together the ministers and officials responsible for food security affairs across the GCC states, deliberated on mechanisms to strengthen Gulf integration in the food security sector.

This initiative is intended to enhance the preparedness of GCC member states in addressing dynamic developments and contingency scenarios, while also reinforcing supply chain sustainability.

The meeting also addressed a proposal to develop a joint Gulf framework for food security support among GCC countries, and to hold a workshop for specialists from member states to review the study plan, exchange national expertise and experiences, and formulate the necessary conceptual frameworks to support the project's implementation and the realisation of its objectives.

This meeting is held within the context of the GCC member states' collective efforts to advance joint Gulf action, further develop the food security system and elevate the level of coordination and integration in a manner that contributes to achieving food security and sustainability for the Council's member countries. — ONA
