MUSCAT: The Ministry of Education will implement the Summer Initiative in the coming period, supervised by the Directorate-General of Scouts, Guides and Student Activities.

This initiative aims to invest time optimally for the benefit of students and ensure the continuity of educational care within a safe and stimulating environment. It offers innovative activities that align with contemporary changes and meet the growing aspirations of students.

The programme targets students in grades 5 to 11, as well as students from the scout and guide units. The programme encompasses social, voluntary, artistic, cultural, literary, sports, global, scouting, guiding, and value-based aspects.

The programme aims to broaden horizons and develop cognitive, scientific, and intellectual skills, in addition to life and artistic skills. It also seeks to enhance information technology skills, scientific innovations, and entrepreneurship among students to keep pace with the modern era.

Furthermore, it creates greater opportunities to discover and hone students' talents, bolsters their experiences in various fields such as cultural, scientific, artistic, scouting, and guiding domains. It encourages innovative thinking through workshops, creative challenges, and diverse artistic activities, including drawing and theatre. The initiative also involves applying certain scouting and guiding traditions related to camping and experiencing nature, developing participants' skills in exploration, challenge, and adventure, and training them in specific land navigation skills using scouting and guiding methods, such as utilising a compass, determining directions, estimating distances, and measuring heights.

Regarding personal and social development and student care, the programme seeks to nurture and embrace students, pay attention to them and their ideas, and create a supportive environment for their growth. It aims to enhance self-confidence and self-esteem, develop leadership and decision-making skills, foster a spirit of cooperation and teamwork, and improve effective communication skills among participants. Additionally, it addresses undesirable behaviours while promoting positive behavioural patterns and social responsibility.

The 2026 School Summer Programme is witnessing an expansion in its implementation scope to include all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman. This will be carried out over consecutive time periods that take into account the readiness and local conditions of the governorates, ensuring the quality of execution, the optimal utilisation of available capabilities, and providing equal participation opportunities for students across different governorates. - ONA
