Al Wafa Centre for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities in Nizwa celebrated its anniversary during a ceremony held under the auspices of Dr Abdullah bin Hamoud al Harthy, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development for Persons with Disabilities Affairs, in the presence of officials, parents, partners and supporters.
The ceremony started with a speech by Salimah bint Marhoon al Zakwani, during which she highlighted the key achievements, programmes and activities implemented throughout the year, as well as ongoing efforts to enhance and develop rehabilitation services provided to beneficiaries.
The event also featured a special operetta showcasing the talents and creativity of the centre’s students, alongside a visual presentation highlighting the success stories of Ahmed al Mundhiri and Iman al Hinai, who successfully got placement after getting training from the centre. Their journeys served as inspiring examples of determination, perseverance and achievement.
A documentary was also screened, highlighting the centre's various services and programmes, and its role in developing the skills and capabilities of beneficiaries while supporting their empowerment and inclusion.
An exhibition of the centre's protected productive workshops was held, featuring a range of products and handicrafts created by beneficiaries. The exhibition reflected the vocational and practical skills acquired during the rehabilitation year and underscored the centre's efforts in promoting social and economic participation for persons with disabilities.
The ceremony concluded with the recognition of partners, supporters and contributors in appreciation of their role in supporting the centre's programmes and activities and strengthening the rehabilitation and empowerment journey of persons with disabilities.
Dr Al Harthy said, "Rehabilitation and empowerment programmes play a significant role in highlighting the abilities and potential of persons with disabilities and enhancing their integration into society. The ministry continues to work on new initiatives and projects aimed at strengthening support services, pointing to plans for the establishment of a National Centre for Persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate in collaboration with the private sector."
