Football fans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming encounter between France and Senegal in Group I of the 2026 Fifa World Cup, a match that rekindles unforgettable memories between the two sides. France enter the match aiming to reaffirm their status as one of the tournament’s leading contenders, while Senegal seek to replicate their historic achievement and demonstrate their ability to challenge football’s elite, the only previous World Cup meeting between the two teams dates back to the opening match of the 2002 Fifa World Cup in South Korea and Japan, when Senegal, making their tournament debut, secured a historic 1-0 victory over defending champions France through a goal scored by Papa Bouba Diop in the 30th minute. The result remains one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history and paved the way for Senegal’s run to the quarter finals. Twenty four years later, the rivalry is renewed as Les Bleus face the Lions of Teranga in a contest expected to showcase European experience against African ambition. The match will be played in June 16 at New Jersey Stadium.
