QURAYAT: A contract was recently awarded for the establishment of a fish landing centre in the village of Bimmah in the Wilayat of Qurayat, Governorate of Muscat.

The project figures among food security initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources as part of its efforts to develop the infrastructure of the fishing sector and support fishermen.

Project manager Eng Khulood bint Khalfan a Sarmi said that the facility costs RO 2.4 million. She explained that the project deals with the construction of a 434-metre main breakwater to protect boats from sea waves, and a 10,500-square-metre investment area for activities related to the fisheries sector.
