KINSHASA: The Democratic Republic of the Congo has recorded a fresh rise in confirmed Ebola cases, with the number reaching 598, including 115 deaths and 19 recoveries, as health efforts continue to contain the spread of the virus, authorities said.


The World Health Organization (WHO) said Ituri province remains the epicentre of the outbreak, adding that screening and contact tracing operations are being expanded to enable early detection of new cases and limit further transmission.


In Uganda, health authorities have reported 19 confirmed cases and two deaths, with no indications so far of community transmission, as epidemiological surveillance and precautionary measures continue.
