SUHAR, JUNE 8
Al Batinah North Governorate is preparing to launch the fourth edition of its Summer Centres programme from
June 14 to July 16 and is one of the governorate’s fastest-growing youth development initiatives.
The programme recorded impressive figures in its previous edition, attracting 41,366 participants through 2,171 programmes and activities delivered in partnership with 46 government, private-sector and civil society institutions.
The statistics were presented by Dr Abdullah al Busaidy, Head of the Executive Committee for the Summer Centres, during a preparatory meeting chaired by Mohammed bin Sulaiman al Kindi, Governor of Al Batinah North and Chairman of the Supervisory Committee. The meeting brought together representatives from government entities, private institutions and community organisations to coordinate preparations for the upcoming edition.
Dr Al Busaidy said the previous edition featured a broad range of cultural, scientific, sports, recreational, educational and innovation-focused activities designed to engage children and youth during the summer break.
Comparative data between 2024 and 2025 highlighted strong growth across several indicators. Participant numbers rose from 34,221 in 2024 to 41,366 in 2025, reflecting growing community confidence in the initiative. The number of programmes and events recorded a dramatic jump from 107 in 2024 to 2,171 in 2025, underscoring a significant expansion in both scale and diversity.
The number of partner organisations also increased from 26 to 46 institutions, strengthening collaboration between government entities, private-sector companies and civil society organisations.
Addressing attendees, the Governor emphasised that summer holidays provide an important opportunity to invest in young people by offering programmes that promote creativity, innovation, leadership, entrepreneurship, teamwork and citizenship values.
He noted that the success of the initiative was driven by collaboration among families, educational institutions, government agencies, private companies and civil society organisations, transforming free time into meaningful learning experiences for youth.
This year’s edition is expected to feature specialised workshops, training courses, cultural and scientific activities, sports programmes, artificial intelligence sessions, entrepreneurship initiatives and volunteer opportunities, aimed at encouraging productive engagement and reducing excessive dependence on electronic devices and social media.
Dr Waleed al Jabri, Vice-Chairman of the Executive Committee, unveiled the Summer Centres’ electronic platform, enabling participants to browse programmes by wilayat and organising institution, review participation requirements and complete registrations through a simplified digital process.
