SUHAR: The Office of the Governor of Al Batinah North has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Sohar University aimed at strengthening institutional partnership and enhancing collaboration in development, academic and research fields to support sustainable development and the goals of Oman Vision 2040.


The memorandum was signed on behalf of the governorate by Mohammed bin Sulaiman al Kindi, Governor of Al Batinah North, while Dr Hamdan bin Sulaiman al Fazari, President of Sohar University, signed on behalf of the university.


The agreement outlines cooperation in applied research addressing the governorate’s development needs, provision of technical and technological consultations, implementation of training and capacity-building programmes, and initiatives to empower students by linking academic projects to local development priorities.


It also includes support for innovation and entrepreneurship, collaboration in urban development, sustainability and climate change, as well as the organisation of scientific events and conferences. The memorandum further enables the exchange of data and information in accordance with approved legal frameworks and participation in developmental initiatives led by the governorate.


Mohammed bin Sulaiman al Kindi said the agreement reflects the governorate’s commitment to building effective and sustainable institutional partnerships across sectors, in line with its strategic partnerships initiative aimed at enhancing integration between government, academic, economic and community entities.


He added that the partnership represents a model of cooperation between government and academia in leveraging knowledge, scientific research and innovation to serve development priorities in the governorate. - ONA
