The Sultanate of Oman will be represented by a distinguished group of six international table tennis umpires at the prestigious ITTF World Masters Championship which is scheduled to take place in Gangneung, South Korea, from June 7 to 12. The championship, organised under the umbrella of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), is considered as one of the most significant global events for veteran table tennis players, bringing together more than 3,000 of participants from different countries and age categories in a unique festival that celebrates the sport and promotes friendship among athletes.
The Omani officiating delegation featured from two highly respected Blue Badge International Umpires including: Aisha al Saeedi and Ibrahim al Jassasi, in addition to four international umpires including: Al Nasr al Kindi, Thuraya al Wahaibi, Khalid al Alawi and Omar al Jassasi beside other members of the national officiating cadre. This selection reflects the growing reputation of Omani table tennis officials on the international stage and highlights the confidence placed in their capabilities by the global governing body.
Speaking to Oman Observer, Blue Badge International Umpire Aisha al Saeedi expressed her delight at being selected for the championship and highlighted the special nature of the event. “I am very pleased to be part of the officiating team at the World Masters Championship in South Korea. This tournament has a unique atmosphere because it brings together veteran players from all over the world in a friendly and competitive environment,” she said.
Al Saeedi noted that this will be her third consecutive participation in the championship after previously officiating at the event in Oman in 2023 and in Rome, Italy, in 2024. “I always enjoy being part of this championship. Although it is not a traditional elite competition, it remains a major international event that promotes friendship, sportsmanship and the love of table tennis among participants,” she added.
She also revealed that this year’s edition in South Korea will feature several technological enhancements, including the Introduction of tablets for match management and officiating purposes. “The use of tablets in this edition represents a positive step forward. It will help streamline officiating procedures and improve communication and efficiency throughout the tournament,” she ended.
Participation in the World Masters Championship marks another milestone for Omani officials, who have consistently demonstrated professionalism and technical competence in major regional and international tournaments over recent years. Their appointments to officiate at such a prestigious event underline the progress achieved by Oman in developing qualified referees capable of performing at the highest levels of international competition.
