MUSCAT: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been selected as the guest of honour for the 29th St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), which will be held from June 3 to 6, 2026, at the ExpoForum Exhibition and Convention Center, with the participation of 130 countries.

The Sultanate of Oman was the guest of honour of the 27th edition of the SPIEF held in the year 2024, which witnessed a top-level delegation highlighting its investment ecosystem and promoting sectors like tourism, logistics, and technology. In SPIEF 2025, Oman continued its strong participation, with a delegation spearheaded by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) to attract international investment in alignment with Oman Vision 2040. In the present edition, an Omani delegation under the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) will attend the four day conference.

The SPIEF is a prominent annual Russian business and economic event. Established in 1997 and held under the patronage of the Russian President since 2006, it attracts over 10,000 global participants, including heads of state, policymakers, and corporate executives.

The forum, organised by the Roscongress Foundation under the auspices of Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, is the nation’s premier business event and a geopolitical and economic tool for consolidating Russia's global orientation towards the Global South. The forum's agenda directly reflects profound changes in the global economy and shifts in established mechanisms of international cooperation.

The forum's theme is ‘Pragmatic Dialogue: The Path to a Stable Future.’ The official business programme is divided into four main thematic areas: the global economy: a new platform for global growth; the Russian economy: a new level of growth; technology: the pursuit of leadership; and humanity in the new world.

In addition, the event will include more than 15 bilateral dialogues with countries and regional blocs, along with the Roscongress International Cooperation platform and the SPIEF Investment and Business Exhibition. The SPIEF Junior Forum will conclude the event on June 6.

The agenda includes a highly anticipated dialogue with the American business community, and US President Donald Trump is expected to send Rodney Cook, Chairman of the American Commission on the Fine Arts, as his representative.

Anton Kobyakov, an advisor to the Russian president, said, “The broad international representation at the forum confirms that it remains a vital global platform for building partnerships, exchanging experiences, and outlining new areas of cooperation.”

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin sent an official message of welcome to the forum’s participants and organisers, emphasising that “the forum will discuss the most pressing issues facing the Russian and global economies.”

“This year’s meeting theme, ‘Pragmatic Dialogue: The Path to a Stable Future, directly reflects the critical challenges of our time. At a time when international relations and economic ties are facing unprecedented challenges, divisions, and disruptions in supply chains and technology, pragmatism and dialogue based on equality are becoming more urgent and important than ever,” he added.

He further affirmed that the discussions would contribute to developing new and effective solutions in all areas of economic and social life, including energy, digital transformation, food security, human capital development, and strengthening financial and trade sovereignty, in a way that serves the interests of the people and enhances international stability.
