MUSCAT: Oman national football team have started their daily training programme in Jakarta as part of their overseas camp in Indonesia, which runs from May 29 to June 9.
The Reds held their first training session on Saturday evening under the supervision of head coach Tarik Sektioui and his technical staff, as preparations continue for a busy period of Gulf and continental assignments.
The camp is part of Oman’s build-up for the Gulf Cup “Khaleeji 27”, scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia in September, as well as the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027, which will be held early next year.
The opening session included physical drills, technical exercises and tactical work, with the coaching staff focusing on improving the players’ readiness and strengthening team cohesion. Sektioui is also looking to assess the condition of all players called up for the camp before the two friendly matches against Indonesia and Mozambique.
Oman will face Indonesia on June 5 before meeting Mozambique on June 9, with both matches providing the technical staff with an important opportunity to test different tactical options and evaluate the squad’s progress ahead of the official competitions.
The squad in Jakarta includes 28 players: Ibrahim al Mukhaini, Ahmed al Rawahi, Fayez al Rushaidi, Ibrahim al Rajhi, Harib al Saadi, Mohsin al Ghassani, Khalid al Buraiki, Khalid al Ghatrifi, Abdullah Fawaz, Ahed al Mashaikhi, Abdulsalam al Shukaili, Hatim al Roushdi, Hussain al Shahri, Musaab al Maamari, al Mundhir al Alawi, Ghanim al Habshi, Ahmed al Khamisi, Zahir al Aghbari, Yousef al Malki, Esam al Subhi, Ahmed al Kaabi, Mohammed al Ghafri, Musaab al Shaqsi, Nasser al Rawahi, Jameel al Yahmadi, Amjad al Harthy, Issa al Naabi and Sultan al Marzouq.
The Jakarta camp represents an important opportunity for Sektioui to work closely with the full squad, particularly as he continues to shape the team under his technical project. The Moroccan coach is aiming to build a competitive group that combines experience with young talents capable of serving the national team in the medium and long-term.
The current stage will also be important for players seeking to strengthen their positions in the squad, with daily training sessions and friendly matches expected to give the coaching staff a clearer picture of the available options across different positions.
Oman will begin their Gulf Cup campaign against Iraq on September 23, before taking on hosts Saudi Arabia on September 26 and Kuwait on September 29. The team will then turn attention to the AFC Asian Cup, where the Reds have been drawn in Group A alongside Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Palestine.
